FIELD NOTES
Do you think a lot about hope? American poet Emily Dickinson said that “Hope is the thing with feathers that perches in the soul and sings the tune without the words and never stops at all.” Desmond Tutu, the South African bishop that helped his country heal after Apartheid said, “Hope is being able to see that there is light despite all of the darkness.” Our scripture passage for today says that “confidence and pride belong to hope” (v. 6).
I like the thought that our hope in Christ leads us to confidence and pride — confidence that we are God’s children and proud that we are “holy partners in a heavenly calling” (v. 1). Our lives give us a myriad of opportunities to show God’s love to those with whom we live, work, and come into contact through daily life. What a great privilege to be God’s hands and feet in the world! No wonder we have confidence and pride through our hope in Christ!
