What Shall We Return?

DAILY READING
FIELD NOTES
In my first (and hopefully only) experience of a pandemic, here are some of my learnings:
- Each day is different, even within the monotony.
- Some days I feel tremendous joy and gratitude for extra time with my family and nowhere to go.
- Some days I feel grumpy and easily irritated by the same things!
- It’s okay not to be as productive as usual in the midst of this.
- And perhaps most importantly, God is so, so very close to us! God is good, all the time. Truly.
The psalmist asks a very pertinent question for today’s times: What shall we return to the Lord for all his goodness to us? The best way, the psalmist says, is to fulfill the vows we’ve made to God. We’ve made promises to the Lord through our baptism and the proclamation of our faith. Now let us continue the creative and challenging work of fulfilling these vows in a new era.
QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD
- Look up your baptismal vows. How are you fulfilling them in the this time of global pandemic? How can the church help you?
FAMILY FIELD TALK
- Talk about the promises we make to God: to love our neighbor, to serve others, to stay in love with God. Why do we make these promises? What has God done for us?
PRAYER GUIDE
Holy One, shine your face upon us and give us peace. In the name of your Holy Son, Amen.
