FIELD NOTES

Have you ever roasted garlic or onions on the stove or cooked bacon or fish in your house? As these ingredients heat up, your whole house starts to smell of their pungent fragrance. It permeates the whole kitchen and travels into nearby rooms. In 2 Corinthians 2, Paul writes that “[Christ] through [Christians] spreads in every place the fragrance that comes from knowing him.” Christ’s love and grace can permeate every inch of our being and our world if we will only allow it. On the other hand, if we are only “peddlers of God’s word like so many,” people who only speak of God’s law and Word, but do not live out our faiths sincerely and authentically, we will block others and ourselves from truly experiencing the beautiful fragrance of our Lord.

QUESTIONS FOR THE FIELD

  • Are you allowing Christ to permeate your life or do you compartmentalize your faith to certain areas of life?
  • If Christ is not present in all areas of your life, where, how, and why are you blocking Christ from certain areas?

FAMILY FIELD TALK

  • How do you let God shine through you at school, at home, and when you are with your friends?

PRAYER GUIDE
Mighty and awesome God, move in my heart and spirit that I might allow you not into just certain parts of my life, but into my whole life. Give me a willing and obedient spirit that I might always welcome You and Your call into my life. Amen.
