Giving

DAILY READING

Luke 19:28-40

As we read this text again today, we see several items given so that Jesus can enter Jerusalem in grand style.

All of these gifts are important and of great worth but they each have a different focus.

The owner gave his donkey because he was asked to by his master. He may not have known how his gift would be used but was willing to follow the request of his master anyway.

The disciples gave cloaks to care for the physical needs of Jesus while he was riding.

The crowd gave their garments to honor Jesus by paving his way into the city.

The crowd praised God with singing and offered up blessings.

Each day we have opportunities to give. They may be flashy gifts of praise and worship, practical gifts of comfort, or merely responding to a request without knowing the end result.

ACTION FOR THE DAY

Today be in tune with those holy moments and spirit nudges to gift a word of kindness, buy someone a cup of coffee, do a favor for someone, give God glory in a conversation with a friend, sing a song of praise, offer up prayers of support for someone in need, you name it. Be bold and courageous like Jesus who rode into Jerusalem on a donkey as the king of peace and love.
